Official Debut of Audi A3 Cabrio at Los Angeles Show

2015 Audi A3 Cabriolet makes its North American debut in Los Angeles, a top version of the brand’s compact car that has been sold in Europe from 2008. The A3 Cabriolet will be sold along with the A3 sedan and A3 e-tron PHEV, which were also, takes places at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show. The 2015 Audi A3 Cabriolet shared the automaker's show stand with the 2015 S3 and 2015 A3 e-tron plug-in fusion.
Once if it arrives in showrooms, the 2015 A3 Cabriolet will try to win with the present generation BMW 1 Series convertible and ultimately the forthcoming 2 Series convertible. The large seller, however, will be the A3 sedan, which was debuted at the 2013 New York auto show. The 2015 A3 sedan will be accessible with four engines, including a 150-hp 2.0-liter turbo diesel I-4 and a 170-hp 1.8-liter turbo-four. A 2.0-liter turbo-four will arrive later, along with a high-performance version for the Audi S3. For now, the engines will be balancing to a six-speed automatic.

The Audi’s most noticeable competitor is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250, which gets a 208-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four which is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. With a base price of $30,825, the CLA250 is presently the cheapest way into a Benz and is selling moderately well. The 2015 A3, however, will be priced at $30,795 and comes packed with a long list of normal items including HID headlights, leather seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

And at present at the show was A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid, which will arrive in the U.S. in four-door hatchback form. We newly drove the A3 e-tron PHEV in prototype form, though it’s not slated to arrive on our shores until 2015. The A3 e-tron hatch combines a 148-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four, a 55-hp electric motor, an 8.8 kW-hr battery, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. In pure electric mode, the prototype we drove speed upto 81 mph before need help from the engine and should run from 0-60 mph in 7.6 seconds.
At the 2013 Los Angeles auto show, we spoke to Audi’s Head of Technical Development Ulrich Hackenberg about possible future A3 variants. He said the next sensible step would be an all-electric version. He says a pure-electric A3 wouldn't create much sense unless it had a range of 350 miles, and he hope to beat this challenge within the next 10 years. But with present battery technology and the A3's small size, Dr. Hackenberg says a plug-in hybrid system is the best solution at present for sustainability, range, and performance.
